MR evaluation of tetralogy of Fallot patients after surgical repair: relationship between aortic dilation and aortic regurgitation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods We retrospectively identified 97 consecutive patients with surgically corrected TOF and 26 controls without TOF or aortic or cardiac abnormalities who underwent cardiac MR evaluation. The ascending aortic diameter was measured at four levels and diameter ratios were calculated for morphologic characterization. Aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) and aortic regurgitation were calculated from velocity-encoded cine data. Aortic size was compared between the TOF and control groups, as well as to population based data. The relationship between regurgitation and aortic imaging parameters was assessed.

Background: Tetralogy of Fallot is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease. The systolic and diastolic function in both ventricles is altered even after successful corrective surgery for this defect with a transannular patch. Pulmonary regurgitation, a common complication after this treatment, is usually well tolerated in childhood. The aim of this study was to assess the combined dia...
متن کاملValve-sparing replacement of the aortic root after repair of tetralogy of Fallot.
Progressive aortic root dilatation is a common feature after surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot. This report describes a successful valve-sparing replacement of the aortic root in a patient with significant dilated aortic root and aortic regurgitation after repair of tetralogy of Fallot.
متن کاملRight ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease
Introduction: In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...
متن کاملAortic root dilatation after repair of tetralogy of Fallot: pathology from the past?
Repair of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) has been performed since 19541 and adult survival is expected.2 Longterm problems include arrhythmias, both supraventricular and ventricular, and residual hemodynamic problems, which are generally well tolerated for many years; these include residual ventricular septal defect and pulmonary stenosis but, most commonly, pulmonary regurgitation, with its consequ...
متن کاملAortic regurgitation from infective endocarditis in Fallot's tetralogy and pulmonary atresia.
Three cases of aortic regurgitation acquired as the result of bacterial endocarditis complicating Fallot's tetralogy and pulmonary atresia have been described. One also had mitral regurgitation from a 'jet lesion' of the anterior cusp of the mitral valve. Surgical treatment of all abnormalities with aortic valve repair or replacement was undertaken in each patient and was successful in two. Dif...
